The Tamil Nadu Government has launched an initiative to promote eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastics and raise public awareness. As part of this, all local bodies, including Town Panchayats, have been instructed to conduct plastic collection and cleanliness drives on the fourth Saturday of every month.
In Dharmapuri district, under the guidance of the District Collector, officials will carry out awareness campaigns, waterbody clean-ups, and segregation of recyclable and non-recyclable plastic waste on January 25. As part of this initiative, Sri Devi Maha Educational and Charitable Trust, in collaboration with Lotus Metric Higher Secondary School, actively supported the drive through student volunteers, working alongside Town Panchayat officials and sanitation workers.
